The film is about an angel and a human woman falling in love. What hadn't occurred to me before is that if they had gotten together, their children would have been Nephilim.
Since my upcoming novel is a paranormal romance with some Nephilim characters, I watched the film more closely than before.
The Nephilim concept is certainly in the Bible:
“When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose. Then the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.” The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown.” — Genesis 6:1-5
The angels (sons of God) and human women (daughters of man) slept together and had babies that grew up to become "mighty men" and "men of renown." The "sons of God" weren't humans as some suggest because their offspring were "mighty." Why would there be a distinction if they were simply humans? What about these two human groups would have produced "mighty" offspring? It was because, as many scholars agree, the "sons of God" were referring to angels. Joe Beam's book, Seeing the Unseen, references this and makes a clear-cut case from the Bible and from biblical scholars that the "sons of God" were angels.
How did this happen? Angels are spiritual beings when they're in the spiritual realm or dimension. But when they're on earth, they are physical beings. Jesus was God and when he came to earth he was in physical form. The Bible talks about angels appearing in physical form as well and it was in that form that they met women who they were apparently attracted to and apparently it was mutual. So the angels slept with humans and their children were called Nephilim.
And that's what the Bishop's wife is about - an angel who falls in love with a human woman. My book, "The Last Hybrid" is due out in February and is a paranormal romance about Nephilim, angels and dark angels. I've always thought this was a fascinating subject and I look forward to reading your book. Will it be your first work of fiction?
This will be my first fiction work. I've co-authored two nonfiction books with Joe Beam. Be sure to follow me on Twitter and/or Facebook so you'll know when the book launches. It's supposed to be February 2013.
Thanks for reading!
